A splash of orange against the skyline. One can see the sun glowing like a hot burning blob of glass in the kin both which signify a cusp of change. The latter signifies the creation of glass while the former signals the arrival of darkness.
Everybody makes a rush for their cellphones.
Snap…Snap…Snap!
In a moment about 30 photos are taken. All of which look very similar. There is a frenzy to select the best picture out of these.
Amidst this chaos, i sit against the fence overlooking the sea with my legs dangling against the wall. The balmy wind against my face and through my locks.I take a deep breath, enough to fill my lungs with a sense of gratitude. How can one miss this moment? I wonder.
And yet, on gloomy days when i resort to look back through my photographs, i find none. It is because of my belief of experiencing the moment instead of making an attempt to capture it.
Which makes me wonder, was i being foolish by relying on my memory everytime to capture a moment of happiness? Ultimately, as humans we always look for some form of tangible thing to strengthen our beliefs (idol worship), to relive a moment (photos) or appreciation for a skill (compliments, awards). So it is obvious that we can better appreciate a memory if we have something substantial to relate with it, in this case it could be a photograph.
Hence, it is not all that bad when one spends a couple of minutes to capture a moment, provided you do not go overboard. At times, i carry the regret of not doing so but thanks to my faithful memory, i am privileged to remember.
