May Favourites!

May1st may have been a holiday for all although I remember it as a day where in I was working at office along with a married fellow colleague. Sigh!
Never mind. I shall list the few random things that caught my attention this month.
Starting off with  the book as below:

Image result for gut book

I picked up this book on one of my journeys back to Bangalore and it was more of an impulse buy. I saw this on the bestsellers list for quite sometime and hence was curious to know more. To be honest, I was under the impression that it would cover facets pertaining to our ability to think with our gut. As in what really goes on in our minds when we arrive at a decision based on our 'gut feeling'. While she (the author) does establish a link between our brain and gut, my questions largely remain unanswered.
On a positive note, the author knows her subject well. She explains the digestive cycle and how one could ensure that gut health is well maintained. She has penned down the facts in a light manner which gravitates towards a funny note many a times - which is nice because the writing does not come across as bookish or preachy.  A good 'toilet' book if I may say so. If you're interested in knowing so as to what happens after you bite into a piece of cake, this book is for you.

As I type, I realise that I haven't been eating out or ordering in much this entire month - which could be a good thing although the following restaurants caught my fancy.

Arena Artisal Brewkitchen @ 100 ft Rd, Indiranagar

From the outside, this place looks just like a metallic pyramid. Whats fascinating is that it looks like a pyramid from the insides as well as one can see a gradually tapering roof to the top. There is a huge 'Cheers' lighting at the bar which my cousin and I wasted sometime at in order to capture it in our selfie.

What blew my mind was a drink which was supposed to be a whiskey based caramel popcorn cocktail and trust me, it actually tasted like caramel popcorn! I have never tasted something that smelled so amazing until now! To add,it was presented with a blob of popcorn and we jokingly laughed it off saying that this is enough to fill our stomachs - daru ke saath chakna bhi mil gaya!

The cuisine was not that memorable to be honest. We ordered a pizza - which was a rectangle in shape (unlike the usual) and some sushi and fish starters. Overall, a pleasant experience.

We topped off the brunch with some yum gelato icecream at Milano's. This place needs no introduction for an ice-cream lover in Indiranagar and hence I shall not dig into the details.

This movie stars Nawazuddin and the Dangal fame girl - Sanya Malhotra and revolves around a struggling photographer in Mumbai who manages to convince a random stranger that he encounters at the Gateway of Mumbai to pose as his fiancee in order to pacify his ailing grandmother.
It is a sweet plot, unlike the usual where in a humble urban middle class girl's fascination with a life unlike hers is explored. She is touted to be a topper who is aspiring to become a CA.However, she lives a rather monotonous life and from the looks of it, this farce provides a much needed avenue for her to break away from the usual. She's fascinated with the idea of living a beautiful stress free life in a pristine village and often seeks to know more from her domestic help.
Inevitably the two end up falling in love, knowing that their story may not have a happy ending. It's the journey that counts and the same has been depicted very beautifully in a heart-touching manner.

And finally, if I could recommend a place to visit for leisure then I would suggest you to drive down along the Mysore Highway on a Sunday morning to Bidadi - a small town next to the famous Rasta Cafe in order to try their scrumptious Thatte Idli. Served with a portion of Sambar and coconut chutney, these 'plate' idlis are much more softer than the regular sized idlis and surprisingly keep you feeling satiated for a longer period of time. It may be my assumption, but I strongly suggest you should try it at least once.

That's all for now, see you later!

The lessons that Last

She was walking mindlessly on the beach this evening. The soft wind felt comforting against her skin. The irritating migraine she had all day seemed to wane making her head feel lighter and her mane now wavering carelessly like a flag on a windy day. The beach was isolated to its core, Goans are not early risers she wondered. She could see the vast shoreline until the end where there was a fort stationed – the Sinquerim fort. She remembered having visited it a couple of years ago with her gang of college friends. The photos taken then, the memories, all of it flashed in her mind. There was a smile on her face. “ Help ” “ Help me ” a cry was heard. It was very faint and she could not trace the source of it. Infact she wondered if she was hallucinating and quickly scanned the expanse of sand to her left assuming the sea has nothing to do with it. “ H-H-H-E-L-P-P !”   she heard amongst gulps of water. The cries were too evident and she couldn’t ignore them anymore. Suddenly it...

From the archives: Let’s be friends?

She was haphazardly running towards the bus stop after swiping her card at the office exit gate. She noticed her bus from a distance as she limped while balancing her dupatta with one hand and her laptop bag with the other. This was the last bus for the day & hence she had to board it at any cost. Luckily, the driver noticed her and decided to wait until she had hopped on safely - a very rare perk of being a woman in a country like India sometimes. The bus was crowded beyond an imaginable point. People struggled to chat/converse or play candy crush on their phones while attempting to balance themselves by dangling from the handles. The bus was supposed to be equipped with air conditioning - which was only in theory and certainly not in practice. The only respite - it was filled with the educated IT lot.  As the bus progressed its journey one bus stop at a time, the seats too started getting vacant one at a time as people started to alight. I looked at my watch & realised I ...

She pushed away the branch of a shrub which came in her way as she struggled to follow the muddy path in front of her. It left a scratch on her elbow.  “Ouch!” she screamed. Somehow, the pain she experienced was inversely proportional to the depth of the wound on her skin. When she once rammed into the  edge of a wall as a kid, her mother’s alarmed reaction made her realise she was bleeding from her forehead. Until then, she was oblivious of the damage and was happily frolicking around butterflies in the garden. Her brother tapped on her shoulder to gain her attention. She shrugged with irritation and moved her head to see a palatial bungalow in front of her. Close to 10 feet in height and orange in colour, it flaunted the Portuguese style of architecture replete with circular windows which were lined with oyster shells, an art which is already declining in the state. The roof was lined with Mangalorean tiles, half of which were in a dilapidated state. The porch had a tiny wel...
